Naturally Photogenic

I LOVE looking at photos of Speckle Park cattle! They are naturally photogenic with their frosted faces or black ears and nose highlighting an almost white face. Black beauties with a little extra fluff to the ears and speckles that range from roan to leopard to the full-on sweetness of a dark-sided appaloosa look.

Does eye-appeal while standing in pasture matter when it comes to meat quality or rate of gain on grass or natural mothering traits? Heck no! But in a world that flaunts visual appeal like the Supreme Champion introductions at Agribition we need to maximize on that visual appeal. Especially to new breeders AND seasoned ranchers devoted to other breeds but secretly longing to try a little something new in their herds.

I recently entered this "Next Generation" photo in the Semex Photo Contest for 2020. People from around the world, from various breeds, in and out of agriculture had the opportunity to vote on the entries to narrow down to a top 10 listing. Thousands of people voted. And, I ended up placing in the top 10.

Am I excited to give that report? You bet!

I am even more excited with the support that so many people gave me!

And best of all, the Speckle Park breed got some recognition for it's visual appeal!

Joan
