AGRIBITION - Expedition,Tradition, New Addition, Competition, Ambition

Updated: Dec 12, 2019

AGRIBITION - a highlight of our year!

Expedition - Long gone are the years of rail travel that happened between the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair and Agribition. We hopped on a plane at Pearson International Airport & were standing in the Regina International Airport in about 4 hours. Always appreciative of the hospitality and the ride from the airport to Evraz Place.

Tradition - Agribition is steeped in tradition. The friendly "welcome" and the hospitality are two of the finest traditions we've enjoyed each year that we've attended. 2019 marked the 49th year of Agribition and you can be sure there'll be one heck of a party next year for the 50th. We had the wonderful luck of meeting (over lunch) a rancher who has been attending Agribition for most of those years. He used to travel to Toronto for the Royal and then home to Agribition-back in the day when the cattle travelled by train between the two BIG shows in Canada. He had interesting memories to share.

We have a very good friend who has attended all of the years of Agribition! He's shown at all of those shows as well. Gosh, he can tell some good stories!

With all of the changes that have occurred over the years the traditions of Agribition remain strong.

New Addition - The Canadian Speckle Park Association rolled out a new banner and display area. Definitely caught people's attention! With Speckle Park being the third largest breed number in attendance at Agribition, the breeders and breed are certainly worthy of positive recognition. It's exciting to think of the potential in promotion and hospitality that a gathering area like this will have in the years to come. Check out the spiffy new logo as well! Show vests were worn this year and the logo was featured on the black vests.

Competition - Class after class of stunning Speckle Park cattle in the show ring made for an exciting day in Speckle Park history. There were lots of fans in the stands and the atmosphere was keen.

We were proud to sponsor the Champion Heifer Class. Congratulations to Wayne and Linda Meakin of Outback Speckle Park on their win.

The following excerpt comes from the Canadian Speckle Park Association page on Facebook and identifies the winners of Champion prizes -

"Grand Champion Female- River Hill 54Z Elle 25E with River Hill 105D Glitter 25G calf at foot exhibited by River Hill Farm Speckle Park Reserve Grand Champion Female- INC Havana 101F exhibited by Prestwould Parke

Grand Champion Male- Notta 1B Hawkeye 444E exhibited by Notta Ranch Speckle Parks Reserve Grand Champion Male- MT Bar Eddie the Eagle 01E exhibited by MT Bar Ranch"

Ambition - Whether in the barns, in the show ring, at the sales ring or at the annual after-show dinner & social there is a shared energy of positive ambition. Breeders who want to improve their herds; business meetings where people are investing in the future of the beef industry locally, nationally or internationally; conversations about next steps for the breed and association; and the continuous buzz of cattle showing discussions.

One ambition stands out as unique and progressive! Congratulations to the members and Board of Directors of CSPA for getting behind the idea of developing a Youth Program. The offering of a heifer for sale proved to be just the motivation for many, many, many, many members, breeders, ranchers, farm owners to get involved in the purchasing.

OVER $28,000 WAS RAISED FOR THE CSPA YOUTH PROGRAM!!!
