July 6th was a big day here at Red Maple. We hosted our first Field Day and we were really pleased with the event. Even with the fact that it was a dandy hay day after a wet June, we had a good crowd of people interested in Speckle Park.
Our guest speakers included - Peter Watson, Watson Land & Livestock, who spoke about how they got into SP cattle and the path they've taken to establish their herd. Dr. Christie Morrow spoke on Breeding Soundness Evaluations. James Craig spoke about our farm with the theme of "Pastures-" Less about Perfection, More about Progress". There was opportunity for questions and discussion. Everyone enjoyed some time to network and share their farm and SP stories.
Next was the bountiful beef barbecue which everyone enjoyed! Brisket on a bun, salads, berries 'n ice cream - yummy!
Then it was off to the pasture fields to view the herd. It was hot out in that sunshine! We really appreciated everyone's positive comments about our cattle.
We're already talking about hosting another Field Day next summer. We'll keep you posted on the date and the plans for the day.
